Shea butter is a fat extracted from the nut of the African shea Tree,named "BAMBARA",it is known by different local names, e.g kpakahili in Dagbani, taama in Waala, kada in Hausa and ori in some parts of west Africa.Shea butter is edible and is used in food preparations in some African countries. Today shea butter is handcrafted in the African country of Burkina Faso, Shea butter is a commodity owned by women and the profits are a main source of income. It has also been nicknamed "Women Gold!".
Shea butter comes in two forms refined and unrefined. Refined shea butter is the processed form. Apart from the filtration process, it also goes under different processes and usage of chemicals to make it smooth, smell better and last longer. A major disadvantage of using refined shea butter is that all the processes it goes through reduces its nutritional value. Unrefined shea butter on the other hand, is the purest form of shea butter, most natural and least processed which is why its able to retain all its nutrients and natural properties.
