The word "Danshiki" comes from the Yoruba word "dashiki", its used to refer to the loose fitting pullover that men normally wore to work ,its very light and comfortable enough to wear in the heat. The Yoruba stole the word "danshiki" from the Hausa term "dan ciki",which means "underneath",both Hausa and Yoruba are spoken in West Africa mainly in Nigeria.

Most people like this piece of attire because of the following:

1: It is a very light and comfortable material.

2: It doesn't cost much to get and is still helpful.

3: It has fun and colorful colors on the attire.

4: It comes in all sizes, some are one size fits all.

5: It easy to make into different styles like shoes, bags, swim wears, shirts and gowns.

One would think things like this won't have so much meaning but this one surprisingly does all the colors have meanings

Red: It has a political and spiritual association to sacrifice.

Green: It represents life, growth and good health.

Yellow: It represents wealth, royalthy and purity.

Black: It is associated with mystery, strength and spiritual energy.

Orange:It represents success, happiness and joy.

I think it is really cool to have something that is this nice, coloful and so full of life come from Africa.I also think that its an easy fix to look good I really can't count how many times this has saved me from going late to somewhere and still look good, its that light and easy to handle.I also love that there are swim wears in this form cause, I love swimming and who doesn't want to look good and confident while doing something that they love...well I definitely do, and own a lot of "danshiki" in different forms the shirts, gowns, bags, slippers, and finally swim wears of cause. I know I know I'm kinda obsessed...
